Thrill of The Fight is getting a sequel and it will have multiplayer

Ian Fitz, the creator of the first Thrill of the Fight is actively working with his team on a sequel to the hit boxing game. Those of you familiar with me and this site know that I am a major fan of Thrill of the Fight. It is my favorite game on the Oculus Quest because it does such a fantastic job of simulating the sport of boxing. Thrill of the Fight also offers one of the best workouts you can get in VR.

Boxing fans rejoice because Thrill of the Fight 2 is currently in development and it has been for some time.

Months ago Ian Fitz, also known as Reddit user “fyian,” posted that a sequel with multiplayer was in the works but there were very few details to give since the game was in the early stages of development. Well, it seems that the game is still in its early days but a few more details have been revealed about the boxing sequel.

  • Multiplayer is confirmed to be a big focus
  • Likely release of 2022 but could be later
  • Development is going slowly, in part because the sequel is being built from the ground up
  • Thanks to the rise of the VR market, funding has improved for TOTF2 allowing the devs to make the game they want to make.
  • Currently, the game is in development for both Quest 1 and 2, and of course, more premium VR headsets

Although currently, news on this sequel is sparse, I think any fan of the first game is excited at the possibilities a sequel built from the ground up could bring. As for myself, I am hoping there is a deeper career mode of sorts where we can climb the ranks with many fights (think 30-50 fight careers) and win belts.

Maybe that is expecting a little too much from a sequel that will also be running on low-end VR hardware but a man can dream, right?

If you haven’t played Thrill of the Fight or if you are looking to decide which virtual boxing games would be best for you, check out our Thrill of the Fight vs Creed: Rise to Glory article, I’ll tell you that they are both fun games but I do think one is better than the other.

Stay tuned for future updates on Thrill of the Fight 2 and give Ian Fitz, fyian, a follow if you are a Reddit user and want to get updates straight from the source.

  1. Yes totally stoked for TOTF2. As a former boxer (youth and into Army days), 30 minutes to an hour of TOTF every day, 7 days a week, to supplement my normal workout has really ramped up my stamina and overall improvement in staying in shape. In my 40s now and been working hard the last 4 months to shave off 40lbs and actually get a pretty chiseled body. Went from 241 to 200. I too am hoping for a more in-depth career and an RPG kind of TOTF2. As long as they keep the core intact without health bars and stamina bars etc. I want it to keep the simulation feel and not have all that arcade stuff on the screen.

  2. Great comments, here are my thoughts.

    – Continue to have authenticity, meaning real world stamina etc.
    – Career mode, opportunity to win belts as mentioned. Also, opportunity to win credits/in-game cash that can be applied to outfits as well as VR gear (Example Ready player 1)
    – Multiplayer is a must. Need to get to the point where you can win actual real prize money like Call of Duty tournaments.
    – Need a mode where you actually have a trainer advising your technique to help you in improve..
    – Need stats on how many slips and blocks you executed.

  3. 1. Remember the old EA Sports boxing games from the 90’s? Very deep gameplay with realistic training and the possibility of fighting your way from bottom to top. I say couple this with TOTF and you have something revolutionary.
    2. More emphasis on training. If you train harder you fight better in the sense that your fighter has a better chin. I find the knockout ability of the higher level computer fighters a little unrealistic but it’s still great.
    3. An online tournament where fighters can fight against other fighters to advance throughout the world. This could be incredible because since you aren’t getting hit you can easily fight everyday and advance quickly based on your skill and quickness. This would be epic.
    4. A more realistic and involved trainer who recommends a diet as well. A way to enter into the game what you’ve eaten for the day as a way to match the game to a real life boxing diet.
    5. And last but not least a two player mode where players who have two headsets within the same household can square off and go at each other. From different rooms of course. Imagine Thanksgiving & Christmas if you could box your arrogant in-law! This would be amazing! Or if you needed to settle a disagreement with your teenage son, just throw on the goggles. Husbands and wives could even square off without the possibility of really hitting each other 😂. Purely based on your real life stamina, skill, power and quickness. As I type these I’m sort of drooling. Come on! Let’s take this to epic levels. Everyone wants to be able to fight someone without hurting themself or their opponent all while avoiding arrest. Let’s do this!
