ESBC is about to bring Boxing games out of retirement

Fight Night Champion which launched waaaay back in March of 2011 was the last time that boxing videogame fans had a chance to play a AAA high-end boxing simulation game. If you are keeping track, that’s over a decade ago.

Since then boxing fans have either had to continue playing Fight Night or move on to other combat simulation games like the EA UFC series which has consistently had releases over years.

I have gotten my boxing itch scratched through the excellent Thrill of the Fight and Creed: Rise to Glory on the Oculus Quest. The VR boxing title is my favorite game on the Quest and it really does capture the feeling of being in a boxing ring minus all of the pain. Even with my love of Thrill of the Fight, there is still a massive boxing-shaped hole missing in my gamer heart.

I want a traditional boxing game that lets me create a fighter, fight other real-life boxers, and win some belts. I want a game that has realistic gameplay, great graphics, and a crisp tv presentation. I want a real deal boxing game that I can play by myself and with friends, a game that rewards me for investing hours into gleefully pummeling my opponents in the face. Thanks to a new team of dedicated developers, eSports Boxing Club is promising to check a lot of these boxes.

Why eSports Boxing Club looks like the Answer

Boxing fans have been living in a barren desert in regards to games. The popularity of boxing has taken a hit in general thanks to the rise of Mixed Martial Arts and the UFC. Game developers haven’t been chomping at the bit to develop a new boxing game and I don’t know if there has been a lot of demand for one either.

Steel City Interactive is a development team that is excited to bring boxing back to gamers. eSports Boxing Club is not content to just be the first professional boxing game in over a decade, they are looking to become the greatest boxing game ever made.

Steel City Interactive has painstakingly pursued and recreated 100 real-life boxers including some of the biggest names in the history of the sport such as Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Jake LaMotta. They have many of the top modern-day boxing talents as well like Deontay Wilder, Canelo Alvarez, and Tyson Fury.

As great as it is to world-famous boxers on the roster, eSports Boxing Club is also looking to provide the most realistic and in-depth simulation of the sport of boxing we have seen. The visuals are top-notch, the animations are meticulously crafted to look fluid and real; the end result aspires to be a game that looks and plays amazingly, a game that can propel boxing to the modern era of gaming and give players a platform they can use to continue building upon. ESBC is poised to be the reigning champion of boxing games for years to come.

Of course, this game will feature local and online multiplayer so you can take on your friends and strangers alike. Having a really great boxing videogame product to play against your friends is a nice treat on its own but eSports Boxing Club isn’t stopping there.

There will be multiple modes including the dream of all simulation players, a full-fledged career mode where you can create a fighter and battle your way to the top of the rankings. The ESBC website boasts that the career mode will feature full customization of your fighter, several championship belts, judges, training, and even cut men.

Here is an impressive developer look at the progress the game is making so far.

ESBC is aiming for Unparalleled Realism and Depth

Authenticity is a hallmark of ESBC, the game features 100 real boxers, several prestigious true-to-life boxing titles, real boxing brands, fighter model damage, realistic movement (there is a particular emphasis on realistic footwork which is a feature that has alluded most boxing games since their inception), and innovations to blocking and defense.

If you are even a casual fan of boxing, you can see in every video and screenshot that this game is dripping with respect for the sport.

The detail the developers are striving for is so involved that in career mode you will have to manage your boxer’s weight and choose your fights wisely because suffering a lot of damage can send you to retirement at a much earlier age than expected.

Features like these are not new to combat sports games as EA UFC has had a feature like this in recent years so we will see how Steel City Interactive improves on this feature.

With over 100 fighters, signature moves and styles for the top contenders, a full-on career mode that will likely last several hours per career, an online versus mode, and the ability to create and share boxers, ESBC for all intents and purposes looks like the boxing game fans have been waiting for forever.

Will the game live up to all of the lofty expectations and promise? Can’t say for sure but with what Steel City Interactive has shown and said so far, I believe this game has a fantastic chance. Boxing fans, don’t sleep on this game, keep an eye on eSports Boxing Club because; from every angle I see, it is looking like a true contender.

What is the eSports Boxing Club release date?

eSports Boxing Club currently does not have a release date. The game was scheduled to hit early access in the summer of 2021 but new funding that has allowed Steel City Interactive to increase the quality of the game has altered plans. The team is taking its time to polish the game up and make it as robust as they can before releasing it in either early access or full retail.

Based on the information available I would expect the game to release sometime in 2022. eSports Boxing Club is currently slated to release for PC PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles. Early access may be limited to PC.
