PSN ID change finally arrives

PSN ID Change

Sony have finally, after years of fan requests, found a way to allow Playstation Online users to change their ID usernames. The process is fairly simple and straight forward and if it’s your first time changing your ID, it will be free. After that there is a fee for every ID change but it seems as if the ability to change ID’s is unlimited.

Sony has also implemented a censoring system that will replace ID’s they deem offensive with temporary placeholder ones. Users can keep their temporary ID’s and make them permanent or they will have an option to choose something else. Been a long time coming but it’s finally here.

Sony blocks Destiny character transfer between platforms

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier is at again with news about Destiny 2. On the Kotaku Splitscreen Podcast, Schreier said that Bungie wanted to allow player transfer between platforms and maybe more cross play features.

Sony shut that down however as they have a huge marketing exclusivity deal with Destiny. If Sony ever let’s up on this, Destiny fans will have the option to transfer their characters from one platform to another, bringing for example a launch day PS4 character over to the PC version of the game.

This is par for the course with exclusivity deals but we have seen some strides taken in recent years with things like Fortnite cross play, and Microsoft games appearing on PC and now even at times, on Switch. Maybe this trend of opening up platforms a bit will continue.

New Star Wars game Jedi The Fallen Order gets its first trailer

Jedi: The Fallen Order had a reveal event last Saturday during the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. During the reveal we got some details on the game and we got our first trailer.

The trailers only featured CGI story cutscenes, but there is a clear message that this will be a single player game where story is at the heart of the play experience.

For me it’s a breath of fresh air as lately, most Star Wars games that have been released have been multiplayer focused. Story in those titles is an after thought. I miss the days of Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Jedi Outcast where story was at the forefront.

I think Fallen Orde looks quite promising and with all the talent they have working on the game at Respawn, I think we will have a big commercial and critical hit on our hands when the game releases this November.

My personal week in gaming

This week I bought two new games. The newly release Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain and Stellaris: Console Edition.

I have yet to crack into Stellaris as I’m looking to put a good few hours into that one when I first check it out. I love the idea of playing a decades spanning space expansion game. I know these types of games are prevalent on PC and I have tried a few but I am pretty excited to kick back and enjoy something like that on console.

As far as Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain goes, I have put about 5 hours into that game already. I am a huge, HUGE, fan of the EDF games, have been since EDF 2017 on the Xbox 360 and I was pretty excited to play this one.

With that said, I was also a bit nervous because this is a spin off from the traditional EDF games. The last time I bought an EDF spin off, Insect Armageddon, I was pretty let down by the fundamental gameplay changes.

This game has changed quite a bit from the traditional EDF formula. One of my favorite aspects of the games is the ability to collecte new weapons on every mission. They removed that in the traditional sense and normally that could kill a lot of my love for an EDF game.

I’m happy to report that so far, that has not been the case. The weapon collecting is different and not my preferred choice over the original mechanic but the change has not hurt the game much for me. For the most part it still captures what I love about the EDF games. Cool weapons, giant enemy scale, destructibility, and flat out wackiness.

That’s the wrap for this week. Thanks for reading and I hope to see you next week for another recap.
