New PlayStation 5 Details Emerge

Video footage of the PlayStation 5’s super fast game loading capability was put up on Youtube. In it you can clearly see just how lighting quick the PlayStation 5 plans to load up games and modes. It’s hard to believe that slow load times may be a thing of the past but perhaps with this new technology, Sony has found the key.

PlayStation 5 quick load times

In other PlayStation 5 news, IGN reports that the PS5 is likely to have cross generational play. That means that users on the PS4 can play PS4 games with users who are on a PS5. This feature goes hand in hand with backwards compatibility which is also likely going to be a feature of the next generation console.

Deputy president of Sony Interactive Entertainment John Kodera said through a translator, “Having compatibility is a positive thing. Not only can a game be played on the next-generation console, cross-generation – the community can enjoy the games together… bridging that compatibility has a very important role to play.”

E3 is just a few weeks away and though Sony wont be present at the show, the details for their next generation system are getting more and more prevalent every month. Stands to reason that we will hear a lot more in the coming summer.

New Portable Console, Playdate looks to make Splash

A new black and white displaying portable console will be coming in 2020, the Playdate. Created by Firewatch publisher Panic Inc. The Handheld has a very unique set up.

As can be seen in the image above, it has a hand crank on the side and what appears to only be two input buttons and a D-pad. It’s seems like a callback to the days of the original game boy. The console will launch in 2020 and will retail for $150. Do you think it has what it takes to make a splash in the gaming market?

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie gets Delayed

Sonic movie director, Jeff Fowler’s tweet

Sonic the Hedgehog film director Jeff Fowler has taken to twitter again to speak directly to the fans. This time he announced that Sonic The Hedgehog will be delayed so they can make Sonic “just right.”

This comes off the heels of earlier backlash to the Sonic character design shown in early trailers. Omnigameplayer.com reported about the fan backlash and reaction earlier this month. Fortunately Jeff Fowler and the studio decided to listen to their audience and it looks like they are putting their money and time where their mouth is and really are looking to alter the look of Sonic. Do you have faith that they will get it right?

EA Games Shows off their Next-Gen Frostbite Engine Hair Physics

Frostbite Engine Hair Tech Demo

Hair, hair hair! EA has gone hair crazy with their brief tech demo showing off what the next generation Frostbite Engine is capable of. In the video we see several types of long, luxurious hair styles flowing in motion.

As funny as it sounds to see and discuss such a thing, it will be a nice step up form what we get in current gaming. Long hair is probably one of the more difficult things to accurately model, if you have played your fair share of video games, that is pretty apparent. It will hopefully be lots of little improvements like these, brought together, that will help separate the future of gaming from what we have today and deliver a true next generation experience.

My week in Gaming

I had another solid week of gaming fun. First of all I finally finished the main campaign of Days Gone. Got done with that at the very start of the week and continued to play some more just to clean up a few missions I had left behind.

At the end of the day the game had a really good story I was invested in along with good gameplay. Also the various patches the game has seen since release, have cleaned up a lot of the games issues. It’s probably the most fun I have had with a new game this year.

I have also started checking out a game on Xbox Game Pass called Descenders. It’s a very difficult game at first but once you get a handle of the controls it’s quite fun. I was hoping it would be like the legendary Downhill Domination on the PS2 but this is more like a solo, stunt game.

Best of all the game has some really great music for bike riding! If you have Xbox game pass, I say give it a try if this is your bag. At the very least, lots of laughs can be had as you continually wreck and embarrass yourself.
