The announce trailer

Ubisoft just wrapped up their reveal stream of Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The game is a direct sequel from the popular third person action shooter Ghost Recon Wildlands which released in 2017.

Wildlands seemed to have had a lukewarm reception upon initial release but the games popularity and quality managed to grow gradually in the months after. Breakpoint looks to bank on that momentum by doing everything the first game did but bigger and better.

With over 1000 people currently working on the franchise and after over 19 updates to the original game, making Breakpoint a more robust improvement upon the first title seems inevitable.

13 minute gameplay demonstration

In the game play demonstration the Ghost crew travel together to a facility, infiltrated it, and then commenced a rescue operation. The demo highlighted the cooperative game play, showing various characters simultaneously attacking the facility and playing their roles.

Like Wildlands the game takes place in a large, expansive open world island. Player will have the freedom to go about their missions however they choose. The newly added features look to bring a new level of depth and survival to the action based foundation.

One thing that has me curious is the mention of the Wolves, an enemy spec ops unit that essentially has the skill and training of your ghost operatives. How cool would it be if this group is like the nemesis system in Shadow of War or the mercenaries in Assassins Creed Odyssey? That could add a really deep and fun layer.

A new PVP mode titled Ghost War is going to be included this time around. At launch it features 2 modes, 6 maps, and 4 classes. The mode also features player vs player combat while simultaneously having Player vs Environment elements too.

Ghost War Mode

Another aspect they touched on was the injury system. There are multiple tiers. First tier of injury gets your ghosts limping. Second tier they bleed heavily and limping is much more noticeable with reduced aim. Third tier is severe limp, inability to use any gun besides the handgun. The ghost can no longer run, in fact they stumble.

From everything shown, if you are a fan of the Ghost Recon Wildlands, you should be very happy with what was presented in Breakpoint. The game releases later this year for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 4th. For more details checkout Ubisoft’s youtube channel where they are presenting even more information.

Update (7/25/19): As we get closer to the games release some new information has come out. The Ghost Recon Breakpoint technical test begins July 26th on PC. For those that have pre-ordered the game, you will be able to get in on the Breakpoint beta September 5-8. If you have no reordered you have a chance to register and get in by signing up here.
