Virtual Sand is about to get bloody again
We live in interesting times. 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, a game I used over a decade ago for a college presentation on video game violence, is currently one of the hottest commodities for the Xbox 360! That’s right, 50 Cent, a game that would typically sell for 10-20 bucks used (which hey, is still pretty respectable for a mid-budget Xbox 360 game) is now commanding prices in the range of $100 on ebay!
This amusing information was brought to my attention via Spawn Wave Plus from Youtube. He points out that several Xbox 360 games have recently gotten some price hikes on the used game market and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand has seen one of the biggest jumps.
.
As you can see, people are bidding some top dollar for a game that hasn’t been relevant for several years.
Why is 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand which is a 12 year old game suddenly so expensive?
The big reason why the market prices for Blood on the Sand are now through the roof comes down to the fact that on November 15th, Microsoft announced that over 70 new titles had entered their backward compatibility program. 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand is one of those 70 games added and a lot of consumers are very happy.
The caveat is that unlike most of the games on that list, Blood on the Sand does not have a digital copy that can currently be purchased on the Xbox store. The only way you can play this game on an Xbox One or Xbox Series console if you don’t already own the digital license is by having a physical copy of the disc.
Apparently, there is a big appetite for a 50 Cent: Third-person shooter in 2021 and people are willing to pay some big bucks to secure themselves a copy. Blood on the Sand isn’t the only game seeing a price jump either, games from the F.E.A.R. trilogy and TimeSplitters franchise are also seeing some beefier prices on the second-hand market.
I suppose this just goes to show that while backward compatibility may not be a total game-changer, it is still an important and valued feature for gamers.
