UPDATE 2/2/20: Rainway was pulled off the Microsoft store according to Windows Central. There is no word yet on whether it will be back up or not. As mentioned later in this article Microsoft has their own cloud service xCloud, and maybe they felt Rainway was interfering with their plans for that somehow. Stay tuned for any updates.

Rainway on Xbox One is the latest entrant in the Video Game Streaming Space

There have been a lot of crazy rumors about the Xbox Series X, including some that speculate you will be able to play steam games on the next generation console. I don’t know if anything that crazy will happen for the next Xbox but Xbox One players can play some of their PC games on their console right now.

Rainway.com has released their open beta on the Microsoft store for use on Xbox One consoles. This means that if you have an Xbox One, you can dive in and try it for yourself right now for free.

Rainway’s mission statement seems similar to Microsoft’s recent efforts in that they want to bring games to gamers everywhere, on any screen.

Our core mission is to use our innovative technology to provide gamers with freedom and choice in how they experience their favorite games. We are committed to breaking down the barriers that keep gamers from playing the games they own the way they want to play them, and to building a positive community of people who share our love for gaming.

Rainway’s Mission Statement

Rainway manages this through their use of the “Pulsar Engine” which is instrumental in delivering high quality streams of PC games to various sources.

The goal is to foster a future where PC gamers can play there games anywhere. On multiple platforms and screens. There seems to be a push in the gaming industry to do just that, make gaming more accessible and available.

This is another company in the growing line of companies looking to master the art of streaming video games. Google Stadia, Microsoft’s xCloud, Sony’s PlayStation Now, are all competitors in the game streaming marketplace looking to perfect the technology and capture the attention of gamers.

Could the future of xCloud offer something similar? Could we not only be playing Xbox games on any screen but our PC games too? Who knows but whenever something new like this comes out, it’s exciting

Download the Rainway Beta today to see what all the fuss is about. Maybe this is another taste of what we can expect in the next generation of gaming.
